In 2014, a heart-wrenching story moved people to tears. The heartbreaking story was about a young boy, named Chen Xiatian, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor at age of five, and his mother, Zhou Lu, who was suffering from a kidney illness at the same time. The mother and son battled with their respective illnesses for two years. But since the doctors anticipated that Chen won’t make it to adulthood, he told his mother: “I want to save your life.”

Eventually both of them became very weak, with Chen losing his sight and becoming nearly paralyzed. Due to this sensitive case, the doctors decided to approach Zhou’s mother. She said:
“The doctors approached me rather than his mother because of the sensitive nature of the issue. They told me that my grandson would not survive but his kidneys could help his mother and also save two other lives as well. I discussed it with Zhou and she refused point-blank, she absolutely didn’t want to hear any talk of that happening.’”

Unfortunately, the discussion was overheard by Chen. He then demanded to let him save his mother, which was eventually agreed on by his mother despite her objections. While in tears, she said that she wants a part of his son to live on in her if he will die. Doctors then confirmed that the tissue matched perfectly and proceeded to the operation.

After he passed away, Chen’s other kidney was donated to a 21-year-old woman while his liver was given to a 27-year-old man. The three organ transplants were all successes, as per the Hospital spokesman Yi Tai. He said that Chen’s death has allowed three people to survive and live their normal lives.

“The medical team held a brief moment of prayer and silence for the poor child before the transplant, I think it’s fair to say there were very few dry eyes.”
