Based on CBC News’ report, the two men have been friends for 60 years already. They were born in Hawaii 15 months apart and met each other for the first time in sixth grade.
They attended a Honolulu prep school and played football together. According to the source, Macfarlane never met his father while Robinson revealed that he was adopted.
They eventually traced their genealogy, particularly Macfarlane. He reviewed the history of his family and went to DNA-matching websites.
His daughter, Cindy Macfarlane-Flores, recounted the experience and said, “So then we started digging into all the matches he started getting.”
The search was successful since the website matched him to a certain “Robi737.” It was Robinson’s username and his nickname was Robi.
Robinson revealed that he also used the same website (Ancestry.com) as Macfarlane to search about his genealogy. Later on, they found out that they have the same biological mother.
According to Macfarlane, “It was a shock.”
The two long-term best friends met and announced their surprising revelation to their friends and family members over a party.
Robinson shared, “It was an overwhelming experience, it’s still overwhelming. I don’t know how long it’s going to take for me to get over this feeling.”
The source mentioned that they both plan to travel and enjoy their retirement together.
Robinson added, “This is the best Christmas present I could ever imagine having.”
In an additional report from 9News, it was cited that the lifelong best friends share the same brown hair and facial features – mainly their eyes, nose, mouth, and chin.
