If there is a single thing that Filipinos are most known for, then it must be for our unwavering sense of humor. Filipinos love to laugh at even the most trivial things, and we also find humor in crisis situations. We are indeed a happy people, and we always looking for a good laugh. For instance, this Filipino netizen named Michael Junjie Aglanao, who brought happiness on Facebook by uploading his banana phone prank on his mother.
At the first part of the video, Michael focused on a Cardava Banana, or more popularly known as “Saging na Saba.” Later on, Michael walked towards his mother who was peacefully sleeping on a duyan or hammock.
When he arrived at his sleeping mother’s side, he reached the saba to her and said, “Ma, tawag.”
Still feeling groggy and drowsy, the mother, who thought of the saba as a phone, reached for it, pressed the fruit onto her ear and said, “Hello?”
The mother, who was still oblivious to the fact that she was holding a saba, continued on saying “hello” on the “phone.”
Michael’s mother became curious at one point, but Michael prompted his mother further and said, “Mag-hello ka! Lakasan mo!”
A couple of seconds had already passed but the unsuspicious mother still did not seem to realize that her son was carrying out a prank on her.
She began saying “hello” loudly, hoping that the non-existing person from the other line would answer.
Michael, then, asked her, “Walang sumasagot?”
The mother took a glance at her “phone” and her eyes widened when she realized she holding a saba for the whole time. Michael laughed so hard when he saw his mother’s reaction.
Exasperated, she said,
“Walang hiya ka! Saba pala ito!”
The viral banana phone prank video, which entailed the caption “My nanay knows best.. hehe #longdistancecall,” has already garnered 1 million views, more than 17,000 reactions, and almost 20,400 shares as of this writing.
